Stand with Hope Harbour your way.

Beyond direct giving, there are ways community partners power the shelter year-round. Each one keeps services running and survivors supported. Volunteering directly at the shelter is not available for safety reasons, but there are several meaningful ways to help.

In-kind Giving

The Walmart wishlist changes weekly.

The wishlist is Hope Harbour's most direct in-kind giving path. The shelter needs specific items every week: toiletries, hygiene supplies, school supplies for children's program kids, basic clothing for families arriving with nothing, household essentials for survivors moving into rapid rehousing.

The Walmart registry is updated regularly so what you ship is what the shelter needs right now. Items ship directly. No coordination call required. Receipts go to you for tax purposes.

Larger in-kind donations (furniture, professional services, holiday gift drives) are coordinated separately. Contact us to set those up.

Donation drop-off: Donations are picked up every Tuesday at Rosehill Baptist Church on Hamilton Road at 8:30 AM and again at 1:00 PM. A staff member will be in the parking lot to collect the donated items.

What ships through wishlist

  • Toiletries: shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine hygiene
  • Children's supplies: diapers, formula, age-appropriate books, school supplies
  • Clothing basics: socks, underwear, pajamas, comfortable everyday wear
  • Household: towels, sheets, kitchen basics for transitional housing
  • Comfort items: blankets, journals, stuffed animals for kids

Important: do not ship to the shelter address (it is not published). Wishlist items ship to a coordination point and get distributed from there.

Why we do not accept general volunteers at the shelter Domestic violence shelters operate under strict confidentiality and safety rules. The shelter address is not published. Residents are often actively avoiding people who would harm them. Bringing volunteers into the building creates risk: identity exposure, unintentional breaches of confidentiality, and safety planning complications.

This is why we ask community partners to support through giving, in-kind donations, corporate partnerships, and sponsorships, rather than direct on-site volunteering. The work still gets done. The shelter stays safe.

Specialized volunteer roles (legal advocacy support, event volunteers, awareness campaign helpers, professional pro-bono services) are coordinated through staff on a case-by-case basis. If you have a specific skill set you want to contribute, reach out and we will discuss whether and how it fits.
Frequently Asked

About getting involved.

DRAFT FAQ - pending approval from Lindsey + Monica. Drop pins on any answer that needs revision. Q&A pairs like these rank well in AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini) when Hope Harbour content is cited.
Can I volunteer at the shelter?

For the safety and confidentiality of residents, the shelter does not accept general public volunteers. The shelter address is not published and residents are often actively avoiding people who would harm them. Specialized volunteer roles (event volunteers, professional pro-bono services, legal advocacy support) are coordinated through staff. Contact us to discuss specific skills you want to contribute.

How do corporate sponsorships work?

Corporate sponsorships range from event-specific (Gala sponsorship tiers) to year-round partnership packages (employee giving programs, cause-marketing campaigns, recurring corporate gifts). Tiers and benefits scale with the size of partnership. Contact us to start a conversation about what fits your organization.

Can my workplace do a giving campaign for Hope Harbour?

Yes. Workplace giving campaigns are welcome and we can provide materials, talking points, and presentation support. Some workplaces run annual drives. Others do event-specific campaigns around DV Awareness Month in October. We adapt to what works for your culture.

Can I host a fundraiser for Hope Harbour?

Community-hosted fundraisers (school events, church drives, business-led campaigns) are welcome and supported. We provide branded materials, talking points, and follow-up coordination. Reach out before announcing publicly so we can support the event well.

How are wishlist items distributed?

Wishlist items ship to a coordination point and get distributed to the shelter and outreach families from there. The shelter address is never used for shipping addresses. Distribution is tracked so items reach families efficiently.

Can I bring physical donations directly?

Drop-off donations are coordinated separately from the wishlist to protect the shelter location. Contact us first to schedule a drop-off at a coordination point. Donations of unrequested items can sometimes create more work than help, so coordination ahead is important.

Take The Next Step

Every form of support moves the work forward.

Whether it is a one-time gift, a corporate partnership, a wishlist order, or a Gala sponsorship, you are making the shelter and the services keep going.
